Precept for October – THE GODS CANNOT HELP THOSE WHO WILL NOT HELP THEMSELVES

I wanted to share this excerpt from Mella’s Precept Essay for October:

All of the qualities of the gods – bravery, healing, foresight, resurrection from death, transformation – are seen as magickal, but the reason the gods have these powers is because they are reflections of ourselves, and we are reflections of them. Our own actions are important, because everything we do echoes down through our lives. We can change our future anytime simply by changing our action. We make our own futures, not by what we’ve done in the past, but by whatever action we take right now, in this moment. Action sends new ripples through the water. Anything that has happened in the past is done, and no longer creates ripples, but our present actions do create ripples and change the future. If we continue to behave in a way that is influenced by our past, and the past is weighing on us, stifling us, and shutting us up in some way, then our future will continue to be formed by our past, with ourselves as the transmitter.

What we need to do is to be gods to ourselves. If we want someone strong to save us, then we have to become that strong savior. The fact that we are even able to picture the force we need to rescue us, means that we already have it within us to be that force. If we need a nurturer or a mother, then we must be that caring mother to ourselves. In this way, it is very true that the gods cannot help those who will not help themselves. The gods are literally working through us, and we are working through them.

Inaugural Surrey Interfaith Council Meeting

Lady Janus and I attended the first meeting as representatives of our Order to help shape a Surrey Interfaith Council today. It was held at the new City Centre Library in Surrey and facilitated by members of the Progressive Intercultural Community Services Society (PICS). The managing editor of The Miracle newspaper was there participating and taking photos. Besides us, representatives from many different spiritual paths were there, including the Unitarians, Sikhs, Muslims, Hindus, First Nations, and Bahai, to name just a few. Staff Sergeant Paul Poloz of the Surrey RCMP was in attendance and told us he’d heard of the Order from feedback after our service for the South Fraser Unitarian Congregation on 6 November. He wants to use us as a resource for the RCMP. I had several people come up to us and comment on how much they were impressed with that service. Well done to all involved!

The group explored terms of reference and I was impressed with how much commonality there was between the delegates. The next meeting will occur in late January, and we will be there.

Skype Session 13 November 2011

Thanks to all of you who participated in our Preceptor General’s Skype Session this evening. For those of you who missed it, we did psychic exercises (knight here focusing on an object, student out there telling us what it was) and long distance energy work (passing the ball exercise, only passing it back and forth across the continent). Very well done to all the students who participated: You did very well indeed. For each of you who did the psychic exercises, I’ve posted photos of the stuff that we were sending (and that you connected with directly or indirectly): since we were on audio you couldn’t see these things. I was focussing on a green man mask, but Eleasaid was picking up on all of the other green man masks right behind me. Lady Janus was focusing on a fob watch with a red D ring clip which you can see in one of the photos, and Sister Celdae was focussing on the orange candle, but her student also picked up on the blue book that she’d just handled before she picked the candle up (both in one of the photos).

Now that I’ve figured out how to do this, we’re going to keep this going. Members can check out the calendar on our Yahoo site to see when the next session is scheduled. You’ll see that our Chancellor General, Lady Devenir from the Bifrost Preceptory, has also got Skype sessions on there you can check out (she joined us for last night’s session, and I hope to do the same on her sessions as my schedule permits).

Preceptor General’s Skype Sessions

These will be on dates separate from those being held by our Chancellor General Lady Devenir in order to increase the availability to student’s schedules. There is a gap in May and October as I will be teaching at some festivals in the US those months.

Lesson Updates October 2011

I’ve updated lessons 1 through 5 and 14 through 16. This includes the addition of the Swinging Arms grounding exercise (which I’ve shown a lot of you but wasn’t included previously in these lessons), more information on Passing the Ball exercises, Pushing Mountains (another I’ve shown most of my Motherhouse students but which wasn’t previously included on line), and the addition of a series of Zhang Zhuang exercises (of which Holding the Ball is one). These include Hanging On The Ball and Floating Hands. I’ve added a great grounding exercise I picked up from a Chinese martial arts practitioner called “Washing the Bones”. I’ve added a couple of my very own techniques as well. One is using an entire tree as a magickal wand to send energy, and the other is a fast warding technique that I call the “Energy Bag”. The lesson Power Points have been downloaded this morning and this afternoon or evening I hope to adjust the associated notes pages for these lessons. Enjoy!
